Monterey, CA

Although Venice Beach is the Hungry Dawgz' official home, we also own a place in the city of San Francisco. Every couple of weeks or so, we take a long drive there. Sometimes we stop somewhere special to explore. This time we decided to visit Monterey, CA just 1 1/2 hour away from San Francisco. Daddy quickly found a great dog-friendly hotel called Portola Hotel & Spa (https://www.portolahotel.com). They have amazing last minute rates. The pet rates are reasonable (two dogs per room max. $50 the first night, $25 each additional -max $100) and there is no maximum weight requirement! Upon parking, we immediately knew we were at a "pawsome" spot when we saw dog bowls at the stores and restaurants right outside the hotel.

Check in was simple and efficient. The rooms were spacious with comfortable bed, large TV, and a small refrigerator (which is really important when your pets are on a raw food diet). We were greeted with their amazingly yummy chocolate chip cookies (for humans of course) and dog biscuits made with left over grains from their brewery. Generally we do not give our dogs grains but we made an exception this time. Of course they were not as good as our Hungry Dawgz of Dogtown treats but our MannyP and Tayrona didn't complain and gobbled them down very quickly.

Situated centrally at the Monterey Bay Peninsula, this family friendly hotel is just 300 yards from Fisherman's Wharf. It's a great place to walk with the dogs and our 2 1/2 year old toddler. They watched a sea lion frolic on the rocks on our first morning! There are plenty of activities to do (there's a pool and hot tub) and the hotel provides a complete guide. They even have a pet concierge that is available to provide information on pet spa services, doggy daycare, pet sitting/walking, and vet services.
