Our Story
In 2010, Sara Bear and Bounty Girl came to Venice, CA to escape from the cold, blustery winter of Boston, MA. Bounty, an avid swimmer, was already familiar with Dogtown. Sara Bear, however, was not always a fan of the ocean. But when she arrived in Venice, after a 2 week trek across the country, she got out of the van, held her head high, sniffed the air, and headed towards the ocean. She finally found "HOME"!
Bounty and Sara had special dietary needs. Bounty suffered severely from food allergies, while Sara needed to maintain a low protein diet to control her thyroid problems. Later it was discovered that she also suffered from Cushing's disease and required additional changes to her diet. To help maintain their health, Sara and Bounty's Mom decided it was time to make healthy and tasty dog treats using natural ingredients. The girls loved the treats and just couldn't wait to devour them. Pretty soon Sara and Bounty were sharing their treats with the neighborhood dogs. Not too long after that the neighborhood dog "parents" started requesting to buy the treats. So this is how Hungry Dawgz of Dogtown came to life! Sadly on February 19, 2011, we lost our Sara Bear to cancer. Since then, two beautiful pups, MannyP and Ethan EasyE, have joined our pack. Sara Bear's goofy smile continues to brighten our days and the depth of her soulful eyes will always inspire us to live our lives with integrity.
It is in the spirit of Sara Bear's courage and her unconditional love for everyone that Bounty Girl, Ethan EasyE, MannyP and the rest of the Hungry Dawgz of Dogtown team devote ourselves to creating healthy and tasty products for our devoted friends, that we support programs which enhance the lives of so many animals in need, and that we commit to promoting dogs who are in desperate need of loving furever homes (just as Sara did when she was rescued from Hurricane Katrina).
Hungry Dawgz of Dogtown dog treats are handcrafted using only the finest and freshest organic and natural ingredients. The products are free of dairy, gluten, wheat, and soy. We also bake grain free treats. They are designed for man’s four-legged best friends who suffer from food allergies and those who need to maintain a healthy diet. Hungry Dawgz of Dogtown supports local farmers and a portion of the profits is donated to charitable animal organizations. Hungry Dawgz of Dogtown treats are currently sold in specialty food shops and pet product boutiques in Los Angeles. For more information, please contact info@hungrydawgz.com.
